Field Hockey Stops Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. -- The eighth-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team improved its record to 6-1 with a 4-1 victory over Northeastern University. Three of the U-M goals came in the first half as the Wolverines forged a 3-1 halftime edge and cruised to their fifth straight win.
Loveita Wilkinson (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) put Michigan on the board early as she netted her second goal of the season just one minute and 44 seconds into the game. NU tied the game three minutes later, but Lindsay Babbitt (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson HS) put the Wolverines ahead for good with the eventual game-winning goal with 25:10 remaining in the half. Kelli Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) closed out the first half scoring with an unassisted goal with 1:20 on the clock. The final U-M goal came off the stick of Jessie Veith (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest HS) 15 minutes into the second half.
Coach Marcia Pankratz's squad closes out a two-game eastern swing by facing Boston College on Sunday (Sept. 20) at 1 p.m.
