Senior co-captain Jon Jansen (Clawson, Mich./Clawson HS), who tied Michigan's career record for starts with his 49th in the Hawaii game (Nov. 28), was named winner of the Hugh H. Rader Jr. Memorial Award as Michigan's top offensive lineman. Jansen, who has started at tackle in every game coached by Lloyd Carr, was named the Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year.
Senior Sam Sword (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS), who made his 38th career start in the Hawaii game, was named winner of the Roger Zatkoff Award as Michigan's top linebacker for the second straight year. Sword, who leads the Wolverines with 113 tackles, has moved his career tackle total to 366 and ranks ninth on Michigan's all-time tackles list.
Senior/junior nose tackle Rob Renes (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa HS) was named winner of the Dr. Arthur D. Robinson Scholarship Award as the leading student-athlete on the football team for the second straight year. A three-time Big Ten All-Academic selection (1996, 1997 & 1998), Renes has earned GTE Academic All-District team honors for the second straight year.
Senior tight end Mark Campbell (Clawson, Mich./Bishop Foley HS) was named winner of the Robert P. Ufer Bequest. The Ufer Bequest is awarded to the senior football player who demonstrates the most enthusiasm and love for Michigan. Campbell has made 14 career starts while playing in 49 consecutive games and he has eight receptions for 78 yards as a fifth-year senior.
