Michigan Advances to Big Ten Tournament Final
11/7/1998 12:00:00 AM | Field Hockey
Both Michigan goals came in the first half. Senior captain Loveita Wilkinson (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) scored the game-winner on a penalty-corner play with 10:25 remaining in the half, and sophomore Kelli Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) added an insurance goal with 4:00 left in the period.
Goalie Kati Oakes (Lititz, Pa./Warwick HS) recorded the shutout, tying the school record for shutouts in a season with seven and a half.
"We played as a team today," said head coach Marcia Pankratz. "Our passing was good and we played with a lot of emotion. Penn State is going to be tough. They are one of the top four teams in the country and it's always tough to play a team three times. Our kids are really up for the game and all the pressure is on Penn State."
