| Jansen Tuman Hutchinson |
Senior tight end Jerame Tuman (Liberal, Kan./Liberal HS) and junior/sophomore offensive guard Steve Hutchinson (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs HS) also were named to the first team on both squads. This marks the third straight year on both first teams for Tuman, who is third on the team in receptions (27) and receiving yards (247) and has scored two touchdowns this season. Hutchinson was a first team media pick and second team coaches selection last year.
On the second team offense, senior wide receiver Tai Streets (Matteson, Ill./Thornton Township HS) made both the coaches and media teams, while junior/sophomore tackle Jeff Backus (Norcross, Ga./Norcross HS) made the media team and earned honorable mention from the coaches.
Michigan had five second team picks on defense, with senior/junior rush linebacker James Hall (New Orleans, La./St. Augustine HS), senior inside linebacker Sam Sword (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS) and junior safety Tommy Hendricks (Houston, Texas/Eisenhower HS) honored by both the coaches and media.
Senior cornerback Andre Weathers (Flint, Mich./Central HS) earned second team honors from the coaches and honorable mention from the media, while senior/junior nosetackle Rob Renes (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa HS) and junior inside linebacker Ian Gold (Belleville, Mich./Belleville HS) were on the media second team and received honorable mention from the coaches.
Other Michigan honorable mention selections by the coaches were senior/junior quarterback Tom Brady (San Mateo, Calif./Serra HS), senior placekicker Jay Feely (Odessa, Fla./Tampa Jesuit HS) and senior/junior fullback Aaron Shea (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa HS). Other Wolverines on the media's honorable mention list were Feely, Shea and senior defensive end and co-captain Juaquin Feazell (Ft. Valley, Ga./Peach Country HS).
The 15 Wolverine honorees accounted for 28 awards, including six first team selections, 12 second team awards and 10 honorable mention selections.
Michigan, 9-3 on the season, shared the Big Ten Conference championship with a 7-1 league record. Coach Lloyd Carr's Wolverines are ranked 15th in both the Associated Press and the USA Today/ESPN polls.
