University of Michigan Hall of Honor

Ron Johnson
- Induction:
- 1989
One of the greatest football players in U-M history, Ron Johnson broke virtually all school rushing records during his tenure. His 347 yards gained in 1968 against Wisconsin was an NCAA record, and he went on to win the Chicago Tribune's Silver Football as Big Ten's Most Valuable Player after setting a conference record with 1,021 yards his senior year. Johnson also set Michigan season (1,391) and career (2,440) rushing record and scored more points in a season (92), more touchdowns (5) and more points (30) in a game than any player at that point in Big Ten history. He was twice voted Michigan's Most Valuable Player and was elected captain of the 1968 squad by his teammates. Â
