An Oak Ridge, Tennessee, native, Mindy Gehrs earned a stunning set of accolades both in and out of the pool over her remarkable U-M swimming career. From 1990 to 1993, she was an 11-time All-American, 13-time Big Ten champion and three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. She captured the 1993 NCAA title in the 400-yard individual medley as a senior tri-captain, setting the Big Ten record in the process. She helped the Wolverines to a pair of top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, finishing seventh in 1992 and fifth in 1993. Gehrs was named the 1992 Big Ten Women’s Swimmer of the Year. In 1993, Gehrs graduated with a degree in microbiology and earned the Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor, recognizing exceptional academic and athletic achievement. She was named the 1993 NCAA Woman of the Year and NCAA State of Michigan Woman of the Year.
