University of Michigan Hall of Honor

Gordon McMillan
- Induction:
- 1992
- Class:
- 1949
Gordon McMillan not only played on the first-ever NCAA championship ice hockey team in 1948, when this University of Michigan great graduated in 1949, he destroyed the career record for points with 210. In fact, he broke the career scoring record in his junior year -- a record that was held by his head coach Vic Heyliger -- scoring four goals and recording two assists in a February game against Michigan Tech. He led the team in scoring all four seasons he played at U-M -- the only Wolverine ever to accomplish that feat.  His freshman mark of 29 goals, 27 assists for 56 points was accomplished in only 23 games. His goal and point total from that season still ranks him in the top five of each of those categories for freshmen scoring.  In his final game as a Wolverine, McMillan scored three goals and added two assists as U-M defeated Colorado College 10-4 in the consolation game of the NCAA Ice Hockey Championships at the Broadmoor Hotel Ice Palace in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
