Frank Legacki

Frank Legacki was a standout on the Michigan swim team, as he helped U-M win the NCAA title in 1959 by setting a record for team points with 1,371. During his time in Ann Arbor, he also helped U-M capture the 1961 NCAA title.  Individually, Legacki won the 1959 NCAA titles in the 100 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay, and the 1961 NCAA crown in the 50 freestyle. He also swam to Big Ten titles in the 100 freestyle (1959, 1960) and the 50 freestyle (1960). As captain of the 1961 team, he got the NCAA Championships meet started with an upset victory in the 50 freestyle, the first event.  Legacki was clocked at 21.4, an American record. Frank also was a two-time national champion and American record holder in the 100 yard butterfly. He swam this event at the US Open Championships, which at the time were the National AAU Championships. This made Frank a five-time national champion.
