Ernie McCoy

As captain of Michigan's 1928-29 basketball team, Ernie McCoy led the Wolverines to their fourth Big Ten title and became Michigan's third All-American. McCoy also played on the 1926-27 championship team. McCoy was a three-year letterwinner in basketball and also earned two baseball letters. He was awarded the conference Medal of Honor for scholarship and athletics in 1929. In 1940, he served as an assistant football coach and assistant athletic director under Fritz Crisler. He was an assistant basketball coach in 1947-48 and took over as head coach the following season. He compiled 40-47 overall and 18-34 conference record over three seasons. McCoy later served as Athletic Director at Penn State and Miami University.
