Branch Rickey
- Induction:
- 1985
Branch Rickey became an iconic figure in major league baseball and American history due to his role in bringing Jackie Robinson to the major leagues. Rickey attended Michigan Law School while coaching the baseball team from 1910 through 1913. Rickey compiled a 69-31-4 record as the Wolverine coach. One of Major League Baseball's all-time great executives, Rickey worked with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Brooklyn Dodgers during his career. While he is credited for many innovations in the sport, Rickey is best known breaking the "color barrier” when he brought Jackie Robinson into the major leagues with the Dodgers. He is enshrined in both the College and MLB Hall of Fame.
