Bill MacFarland

Bill MacFarland

Induction:
2009

Courage and tenacity describe Bill MacFarland, a Michigan hockey legend whose dominating presence on the ice earned him the nickname, “Enforcer.” His commanding style of play created scoring opportunities and left opposing teams battered and bruised. MacFarland was an integral part of U-M 1955 and 1956 NCAA champion teams. His leadership and distinguished play resulted in him twice being named a team captain, as well as three All-America and All-WCHA honors. MacFarland’s collegiate career brought offers to play professional hockey, where he continued to perform at a high level. He spent 11 years in the Western Hockey League, and in 1962, he won the George Leader Cup as the WHL’s Most Valuable Player.
