ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football team came away with a hard-fought 17-10 win over No. 11-ranked Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 12) at Michigan Stadium.

After being out-possessed in the season opener, the Wolverines used their rushing attack to control the clock against the Sooners, totaling 33 minutes of possession and 152 yards on the ground. A strong defensive showing also held OU to just three third-down conversions on 13 attempts, limiting the Sooners' ability to extend drives.

Jyaire Hill ended the momentum the Sooners had gained in the second half, recording his third career interception with 8:49 left in the fourth quarter, returning it 23 yards to the six-yard line. The turnover led to Jordan Marshall punching in his first touchdown of the season for the game-winning score.

After the interception, U-M held the Sooners to just 25 yards, with Nate Marshall sealing the win with his first career solo sack to end the game.

For the second time in as many games, the Maize and Blue started the scoring. On their second drive of the game, the Wolverines drove 91 yards in just six plays, highlighted by a 36-yard catch-and-run by JJ Buchanan before Bryce Underwood took it himself 38 yards to the house, the longest rush of his career.

In the second quarter, Underwood added a key third-down conversion with his legs, leading to Trey Butkowski's first career field goal as a Wolverine, a 40-yarder that put Michigan up 10-0 going into halftime.

Underwood led the Wolverines on the ground with 87 rushing yards on 18 carries.

Despite facing a Sooner offense that totaled 401 yards last week, the Michigan defense turned in a strong performance, pitching a shutout over the first 30 minutes. Oklahoma managed just 115 yards in the first half, punting four times and turning the ball over once as Chris Bracy forced a fumble recovered by Troy Bowles. It marked the first time Oklahoma has been held scoreless across a half since Oct. 11, 2025.

Senior edge rusher John Henry Daley caused OU problems all day in his second game as a Wolverine, recording his first sack at Michigan in the first quarter and totaling eight tackles, including three for loss.

Before the tie-breaking score, Oklahoma made its way back into the game, scoring on the first two possessions of the second half and tying the game while holding U-M to just 55 yards across three drives.

Field position also remained a factor throughout the game, with Cam Brown and the special teams unit giving the U-M defense favorable field position. Brown punted a career-high six times for 296 yards and pinned the Sooners inside the 20-yard line, including twice inside the one-yard line.

The victory marks Michigan's first at home against a ranked opponent since defeating then-No. 11 USC 27-24 in 2024.

U-M continues its non-conference schedule next Saturday (Sept. 19), hosting UTEP at Michigan Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. kick on Big Ten Network.
