
Tapper Seventh in Shot Put at NCAA Championships to Close U-M's 2026 Campaign

EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team closed out its 2026 season on Thursday (June 11) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field, putting one Wolverine on the podium.
Elizabeth Tapper threw a season-best 17.54 meters (57 feet, 6.5 inches) in the shot put, advancing to the finals and finishing seventh there to score two points for Michigan. Her first attempt was her best throw of the day, with three attempts above 17 meters. Tapper improved upon her 14th-place finish from last season to earn first team All-America honors for the first time in her career.
Abigail Russell also competed in the shot put, finishing 13th with a mark of 16.62m (54-6) to best her 21st-place finish at the 2025 Championships and earn second team All-America honors.
In the long jump, Amare Harlan placed 13th in her NCAA Outdoor Championships debut with a career-best-tying mark of 6.37m (20-10.75) for second team All-America honors.
Sidney Green finished 22nd in the 400-meter hurdles semifinals with a time of 58.62 seconds to earn All-America honorable mention recognition.
The Wolverines will look to international competition next, with select members of the team continuing their campaigns at respective senior-level and U20 national championships.
