
U-M Trio Earns All-Big Ten First-Team Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Piper Charney, Lily Jones and Reese Miller of the University of Michigan women's tennis team each earned All-Big Ten first-team honors as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon (April 21). Michigan was the only team with three first-team members.
Charney earned first-team honors for the second straight season after going 7-0 in Big Ten action and 10-6 in dual matches, playing at No. 1 and No. 2 singles all season long. She earned All-America honors in the fall for the second time in her career after reaching the round of 16 at the NCAA Singles Championship. She is currently ranked No. 13 in singles and is 25-1 in Big Ten singles action over her three-year career in the maize and blue.
Jones grabbed a spot on the first team after earning second-team honors last season. In her final season in Ann Arbor, Jones is tied with Miller for the team lead in singles wins at 28. She went 9-6 in dual matches this season and 5-3 in Big Ten action, playing at No. 1 and No. 2. Like Charney, she earned All-America honors in singles during the fall season, reaching the round of 16 for the first time in her career. Jones is ranked No. 36 in singles and No. 30 in doubles with Jessica Bernales. She was also Michigan's Sportsmanship honoree, earning the honor for the fourth straight season.
Miller earned conference recognition for the first time in her career after winning a career-high 28 matches during the regular season, tied with Jones for the most on the team. She dropped her first conference match back in March before rattling off 10 straight Big Ten wins to finish at 10-1. She leads U-M with a 17-3 dual-match record in singles, going 1-0 at No. 2, 14-3 at No. 3 and 2-0 at No. 4. Miller enters the postseason on an 11-match winning streak in singles action and is ranked No. 90 in singles.
Michigan is back in action this weekend (April 24-26) at the Big Ten Tournament at Ohio State. U-M received a bye into the quarterfinals and will play the final match of the day on Friday (April 24) at 4:30 pm. Michigan will face either Iowa or Wisconsin in the quarterfinals. The Wolverines earned a pair of 4-0 wins this season against both teams.
