ATLANTA, Ga. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team scored 220 points to finish eighth at the NCAA Championships on Saturday (March 28) at McAuley Aquatic Center. Texas defended its national championship with 445.5 points.
The eighth-place finish marks the highest result for the Maize and Blue since the 2017-18 campaign, when it also finished eighth, and the best finish under head coach Matt Bowe.
Tyler Ray had a huge morning as the senior set a new school and Big Ten record in the 200-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:38.55 to place second and reach the championship final. Three Wolverines scored points in the 200-yard IM as Colin Geer, Lorne Wigginton and Luka Mladenovic took 10th, 13th and 15th, respectively.
Ray followed up with an even better swim in the 200 fly final, lowering his record time to 1:38.47 to take bronze and earn another All-America honor.
Michigan closed its season by finishing fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Ole Eidam, Jack Wilkening, Ray and Antoine Sauve set a new school record by more than a second with a mark of 2:45.95.
