Wolverines Blank Minnesota for Fifth Straight Win

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team rolled to its fifth straight win, shutting out Minnesota, 4-0, on Friday evening (March 27) at the Baseline Tennis Center. U-M won the doubles point for the ninth straight match before taking three straight-set singles wins.
Michigan breezed to the doubles point, getting wins at No. 1 and No. 2 for the 1-0 lead. Reese Miller and Laura Rahnel, playing at No. 1 for the first time, dropped just two games in a 6-2 win. The Wolverines went up a break at 3-1 and never looked back in the first match off court.
U-M's No. 2 pair of Piper Charney and Emily Sartz-Lunde clinched the doubles point for the Maize and Blue with a 6-1 victory. Charney and Sartz-Lunde broke at 2-1 and weathered an injury timeout in the penultimate game en route to putting the first point on the board.
Michigan won five first sets in singles action.
Lily Jones accounted for Michigan's second point of the match, dropping just three games in a 6-0, 6-3 win at the top of the lineup. She secured the break midway through the second set and closed it out for a 2-0 U-M lead.
Miller extended the Michigan lead to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 a few minutes later. She picked up her 21st win of the season.
Sartz-Lunde put the deciding point on the board for the third straight match, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 to wrap up the 4-0 win for Michigan.
Michigan completes its weekend road swing on Sunday (March 29) at Wisconsin, facing the Badgers at 10 a.m. CT.
