
Richard Wins Winter Cup All-Around Title

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Senior Fred Richard of the University of Michigan men's gymnastics team earned the all-around title at the USA Gymnastics Winter Cup on Feb. 23 at the Kentucky International Convention Center. The Wolverines added six more medals, and two athletes secured spots on the U.S. Men's National Team.
This marks the first all-around title for Richard, who finished second last year, and the program's first since Cameron Bock in 2021.
Michigan assistant coach Crew Bold and Richard were selected to the U.S. Men's National Team roster. Bold is set to compete at the FIG World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, from April 3-6.
Richard posted an all-around score of 84.359, finishing 4.649 points ahead of runner-up Yul Moldauer. The Stoughton, Mass., native earned four additional medals, capturing the floor exercise title (14.355) and taking bronze on pommel horse (13.952), still rings (13.800) and high bar (13.850).
Junior Charlie Larson earned silver on floor exercise with a score of 14.202, while Bold claimed silver on high bar with a 14.263 to round out the medalists.
Sophomores Aaronson Mansberger and Carson Eshleman also competed, with Mansberger placing fourth on pommel horse (13.858). Eshleman's top performance was a 13.150 on vault.
The Wolverines will return to collegiate competition on March 7, hosting Big Ten foe Penn State at Cliff Keen Arena. The meet will be streamed live at 1 p.m. on B1G+.
