PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The University of Michigan football team picked up a Big Ten road win at Rutgers' SHI Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 31), putting up 427 total yards -- its third-highest total of the season.
Tommy Carr was key in the winning effort, rushing for both of Michigan's second-half touchdowns, a 15-yard score in the third quarter and the game-winning touchdown from nine yards out with 4:24 left in the fourth.
Carr showed his dual-threat ability in his second career start, completing 81 percent of his passes for 266 yards and contributed 54 more on the ground, also finding JJ Buchanan for a six-yard score to put the Wolverines on the board on their first drive of the game.
After allowing 13 points in the first half, the Maize and Blue defense held Rutgers to just 87 yards in the second, forcing two straight three-and-outs in the third quarter. Four different players recorded tackles for loss in the game, including Enow Etta's first solo sack of 2026.
U-M especially thrived defending the pass, holding the Scarlet Knights to a 25 percent completion percentage and not allowing a single completion in the second half for the second straight game.
Chris Bracy continued his successful junior season, recording his second sack of the season in the first half and totaling six tackles.
Michigan opened the scoring with two consecutive scoring drives of more than 75 yards, as Buchanan's fifth receiving touchdown of the season ended a 92-yard drive, and Jordan Marshall punched in a two-yard score to put U-M up 14-3.
The offense was on track in the first 30 minutes, as three different receivers hauled in catches more than 20 yards, including Mason Bonner's first career reception going for 27 yards.
Savion Hiter was key to Michigan's success on the ground, tying his career high with 80 total yards on 20 carries.
The U-M offense thrived on third down en route to out-possessing the Scarlet Knights by nearly 15 minutes and converted on 12 of its 16 third-down attempts.
Despite the victory, U-M left points on the board with two missed field goals and it struggled with penalties, totaling 90 yards.
Michigan will continue its schedule next Saturday (Nov. 7) against Michigan State at Michigan Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on Peacock.
