
Preseason Honors: Sprague, Underwood Named to Shaun Alexander Award Watch List

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan offensive lineman Andrew Sprague and quarterback Bryce Underwood were named to the Shaun Alexander Award watch list on Tuesday (Aug. 26). The award is presented annually to the best freshman player in college football.
Michigan's preseason award honorees (as of Aug. 26):
Andrew Sprague, Sophomore, Offensive Line

• Aug. 26: Shaun Alexander Award Watch List
• Four games played as a true freshman
• A one-year letter winner who made one start at right tackle in 2024
• Appeared in two Big Ten games, earning snaps at Indiana and against Northwestern
• Made his first career start against Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl
• Helped pave the way for Jordan Marshall's 100-yard rushing performance against the Crimson Tide
Bryce Underwood, Freshman, Quarterback

• Aug. 26: Shaun Alexander Award Watch List
• True freshman preparing for his collegiate debut this fall
• Four-year starter at local Belleville High School with a career record of 50-4
• Engineered a 38-game winning streak from mid-freshman season to state title game of junior season
• Helped the team reach three straight Division I MHSAA State Championships from 2021-23, with back-to-back titles in 2021-22
• Amassed 12,919 career all-purpose yards in high school; 11,488 passing yards and 179 total touchdowns, including 27 rushing scores
Rod Moore, Senior, Defensive Back

• Aug. 19: College Football Comeback Player of the Year Watch List
• 37 career games played at safety with 28 starts
Credited with 141 career tackles, including 2.5 for loss with a half- sack
• 13 career pass breakups with six interceptions, including game-sealing pick against Ohio State in 2023
• Two-time All-Big Ten selection in 2022 (honorable mention) and 2023 (third team)
• Team's 2021 Special Teams Rookie of the Year and Defensive Co-Rookie of the Year
• Voted top 12 in ESPN's Ranking of the Best College Defensive Backs in 2025

• 41 career games played at edge rusher with 12 starts
