
Sung Sisters Help U-M Move Into Ninth After 36 Holes of Big Ten Championships

» With a 69 (-3) from Lauren Sung, Michigan posted a 294 second-round total and moved up into ninth (592) after 36 holes of the Big Ten Championships at the Bulle Rock Golf Course.
» After opening with a 78, Sung had 13 pars, four birdies and a bogey to rebound with a 69 (-3) and jumped 38 spots into a tie for 30th after 36 holes. With a fourth sub-par tally, Sung posted her career-low at the conference championship.
» Sydney Sung remained among the top 10 following her second round 73 (+1). She sits tied for ninth at even par 144 (71-73). A second 74 by Mara Janess has her tied for 37th at 148.
» Michigan will play Sunday's final round with Rutgers and Minnesota.

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. -- With a 69 (-3) from junior Lauren Sung and a 73 (+1) from sister Sydney Sung, the University of Michigan women's golf team posted a 294 second-round team total on Saturday (April 19) to move up to ninth with a 592 tally after 36-holes of the Big Ten Championships at the Bulle Rock Golf Course.
After opening her championships with a 78, Lauren Sung rebounded in the second round using 13 pars, four birdies and a bogey to card her Big Ten Tournament-best 69 (-3) and vaulted 38 spots into a tie for 30th at 147. After leading the Wolverines with her opening 71 (-1), Sydney Sung followed with a 73 (+1) and remained among the top 10 at even par (144).
Posting a second straight 74 (+2), redshirt-sophomore Mara Janess is tied for 37th with her 148 total. Rounding out U-M's starters, sophomore Grace Wang is tied for 67th (76-78/154) and freshman Thomasine Bartholdson is tied for 75th (77-79/156).
With a 281 (-7) second-round tally, Michigan State vaulted itself into the Big Ten lead after 36 holes with a 573, -3 (292-281) total. First-day leader Oregon is three shots behind the Spartans at even-par 576 (286-290), while Illinois is third at 578 (286-292).
The Wolverines, who will be paired with Rutgers (594) and Minnesota (595), will close the conference championships off Bulle Rock Golf Course's 10th tee Sunday morning (April 20) at 9:40 a.m.
