ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan wrestling head coach Sean Bormet announced Tuesday (March 25) the addition of graduate transfer Taye Ghadiali to the Wolverine program. Ghadiali, a 2024 heavyweight All-American and three-time SoCon champion while at Campbell, will join the Wolverines for the 2025-26 season.
"We're thrilled to bring Taye back to his home state and our Michigan program," said Bormet. "We recruited him when he was in high school. We were impressed with him then, and we're even more impressed with the man he is today. He is an incredibly intelligent, hard-working, high-character individual who will fit in well with the culture of our team. We believe Taye will be right in the mix with the top heavyweight contenders next season, and we can't wait to get to work."
A native of Warren, Mich., Ghadiali claimed eighth place at the 2024 NCAA Championships, becoming just the second-ever All-American in Campbell wrestling history, and was a four-time NCAA qualifier at heavyweight (2021-24). He was named the 2024 SoCon Wrestler of the Year after capturing his third straight conference heavyweight title. He posted a 102-28 record over his tenure at Campbell, including a stellar 36-6 mark in 2023-24, and boasted 62 bonus wins with 29 falls.
Ghadiali was 4-2 this past season -- his only losses coming against top-four NCAA finishers Gable Steveson and Isaac Trumble -- and earned an All-Star Classic exhibition win over Ohio State's Nick Feldman before suffering a season-ending injury in early January. He was ranked No. 6 nationally at the time of the injury.
He earned NWCA Scholar All-American and SoCon Academic All-Conference while pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree and is a three-time SoCon Academic Honor Roll recipient. He also earned a bachelor's degree in Trust and Wealth Management from Campbell.
