ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Michael Hage of the University of Michigan ice hockey team was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year when the all-conference awards were announced on Tuesday (March 18) live on Big Ten Network.
Junior T.J. Hughes and senior Ethan Edwards were named second-team All-Big Ten, while grad student Jacob Truscott was named honorable mention and was named as U-M's Sportsmanship Award honoree. Joining Hage on the all-freshman team was goaltender Cameron Korpi.
A first-round Montreal Canadiens draft pick in 2024, Hage has 34 points in 33 games, with 13 goals and 21 assists. He ranks fourth among all rookies in the NCAA in points per game (1.03). He began his career on a five-game point streak en route to earning national Rookie of the Month honors in November. In conference games, Hage was fifth in the league in scoring with eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 24 games. Hage had points in 22 games and collected eight multiple-point games, highlighted by a five-point performance against Penn State. The Mississauga, Ontario, native also led the Wolverines with four game-winning goals.
Hughes is Michigan's leading scorer with 38 points in 36 games, tallying 15 goals and 23 assists -- both team highs. In conference-only games, Hughes ranks fourth in the league with 30 points in 24 games. During the season, he put together a nation-best 15-game point streak, with a point in every game between Dec. 14 and Feb. 15, scoring 22 points on nine goals and 15 assists. A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Hughes had points in 24 games and nine multiple-point games, highlighted by a four-goal, five-point game against Penn State. Additionally, Hughes led the team in faceoffs, winning 380 for 52.6 percent.
Edwards led Michigan defensemen in scoring with 21 points, tallying five goals and 16 assists in 36 games. The senior from Grand Prairie, Alberta, logged a large number of minutes in the second half, playing more than 26 minutes per game. He is second on the team in blocked shots with 49.
A two-year team captain, Truscott collected 16 points on three power-play goals and 13 assists this season. He led the team in blocked shots with 56 and averaged more than 22 minutes per game. Truscott, a 2025 nominee for both the Hockey Humanitarian and the Derek Hines Award, receives the Sportsmanship Award for the second straight season.
Korpi appeared in 18 games and made 16 starts in net. He posted a 7-6-1 record with a .904 save percentage and a 3.08 goals-against average. The South Lyon, Mich., native made a career-high 41 saves at Wisconsin and had six 30-plus-save performances.
