
Trio of Wolverines Set for Winter Cup

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Three former and current members of the University of Michigan men's gymnastics team will compete at the USA Gymnastics Winter Cup, Friday through Sunday (Feb. 21-23) at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Ky.
Notes
• Current Wolverines Javier Alfonso and Fred Richard along with 2024 graduate and U-M assistant coach Crew Bold are slated to compete at the Winter Cup. Graduate student and 2024 Olympian Paul Juda has elected to forego the competition.
• Richard will compete in the all-around competition, Alfonso will compete on floor exercise, still rings, parallel bars and high bar, while Bold will take part in floor exercise, parallel bars and high bar.
• Alfonso excelled in his signature event at last year's Winter Cup, finishing third with a score of 28.650 over two days of competition. He also finished seventh on floor. Bold's best performance was on the parallel bars, finishing seventh (28.350). Richard did not compete due to load management.
• The meet is a qualifying event for the 2025 US Gymnastics Championships, and will also culminate in the selection of the Men's Senior National Team following the competition.
• Friday's (Feb. 21) competition will begin at 6 p.m. If qualified, gymnasts will advance to event finals on Sunday (Feb. 23) at 4:30 p.m. Both days will be streamed live on the USA Gymnastics YouTube channel.
• The Maize and Blue will return to team competition on March 15, hosting rival Ohio State at 2 p.m. for Senior Day at Cliff Keen Arena.
