ROSEMONT, Ill. -- University of Michigan volleyball outside hitter Allison Jacobs (first team) and middle blocker Serena Nyambio (second team) were named to the All-Big Ten Team, the conference announced Tuesday (Dec. 2).
Jacobs' selection was unanimous, the first for Michigan since Paige Jones in 2019. Jacobs is now the seventh player in program history to earn All-Big Ten first-team honors twice.
Jacobs tallied 448 kills on a .246 hitting percentage with 214 digs, 33 aces and 60 blocks -- all career highs. The graduate student ranks fourth in the Big Ten in kills and points while ranking fifth in kills per set (3.93) and sixth in points per set (4.52). This season, Jacobs has double-digit kills in 24 matches, with 20 or more in seven and has recorded seven double-doubles. She earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors twice and was selected to the All-Big Ten first team for the second consecutive season.
Nyambio leads U-M in blocks with 146, ranking sixth in program single-season history. In conference play, Nyambio became the first Wolverine in the 25-point rally scoring era with 100 blocks, leading the Big Ten, and was second among qualified players in blocks per set. Over the full season, Nyambio was second in the Big Ten and 23rd nationally in total blocks, fifth in the Big Ten in blocks per set and fourth in hitting percentage. In addition to her blocks, Nyambio has added a career-high 206 kills on a career-best .388 hitting percentage. She becomes the sixth player in program history to earn All-Big Ten second-team honors.
Sydney Schnichels was chosen by the coaching staff as Michigan's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree. The Minnesota transfer has seen intermittent action but has been a vocal leader on the bench. The redshirt sophomore has played in 16 matches and 44 sets, totaling 38 kills on 129 swings while adding 15 blocks and 13 digs.
