LAKE NONA, Fla. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team wrapped up action at the NCAA Singles Championship on Thursday morning (Nov. 20) at the USTA National Campus.
Piper Charney's run came to an end by No. 39-ranked Carolina Gomez Alonso of Arkansas. Gomez Alonso jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Charney trimmed the lead to 3-2. The Razorback won three straight games after that for the 6-2 first-set lead.
Gomez Alonso raced out to a 5-0 lead in the second, with Charney winning a pair of games to stem the tide at 5-2. Gomez Alonso closed out the match in the next game, taking the 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Lily Jones withdrew from the tournament with an injury.
Both players secured All-America honors at the event, the first for Jones and the second for Charney.
Michigan completes tournament action in January, hosting the Michigan Invitational (Jan. 16-18) at the Varsity Tennis Center in the new year.
