ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 16-ranked and No. 3-seeded University of Michigan men's soccer team battled but fell 1-0 to Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday (Nov. 20) at U-M Soccer Stadium. With the loss, the Wolverines ended their 2025 season.
Michigan (12-4-4) was on the front foot for much of the match, outshooting the Irish 21-9, with eight of those attempts on goal.
The Wolverines applied pressure right from the first whistle, launching four shots at the Notre Dame goal within the first 20 minutes. In the 22nd minute, Michigan had a flurry of chances as Will Baker, Nolan Miller and Joao Paulo Ramos each had a shot that threatened to break the deadlock, but the ball stayed out of the net to keep the game scoreless.
Notre Dame (9-6-4) took the lead in the 51st minute as a ball was deflected in the penalty box and into the Michigan net.
Michigan got back to controlling possession and kept testing the Notre Dame defense. The Fighting Irish held on in the remaining 39 minutes of play to end the Wolverines' NCAA Tournament run as the 2025 season drew to a close.
U-M finished the season with 12 wins, three more than in 2024. The Wolverines finished with a 6-2-2 conference record to improve by four wins, ended the regular season No. 3 in the conference standings and advanced to the Big Ten Tournament final.
