ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team swept its singles and doubles matches on the second day of action at the Michigan Invitational on Saturday at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Michigan picked up three doubles wins by identical 6-3 scores, including a pair of wins over Eastern Michigan and one over Michigan State.
The Maize and Blue picked up eight singles wins on the day, dropping just two total sets in matches against Texas Tech and Ohio State. Julia Fliegner, Lily Jones, Reese Miller, Jessica Bernales, Ava Bruno and Bayley Sheinin each picked up straight-set wins. Piper Charney rallied from dropping her first, dropping just two total games over the final two sets. Emily Sartz-Lunde won her first, 6-2, before falling in the second by the same score. She bounced back with another 6-2 win, moving to 2-0 in singles on the weekend.
All eight Wolverines now have at least one singles win at the event.
U-M wraps up the Michigan Invitational on Sunday (Jan. 12), with action beginning at 10 a.m. inside the Varsity Tennis Center.
