Top-20 Freshman Duo Guides Wolverines to Ninth at Boilermaker Classic

» Michigan tallied a 301 final-round total to post a 915 54-hole total and finish ninth at the Boilermaker Classic played on the Kampen Course at the Brick Boilermaker Complex.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Led by freshman duo of Suzie Tran and Mimi Guo, the University of Michigan women's golf team opened its season tallying a 915 54-hole total to post a ninth-place finish Tuesday (Sept. 3) at the Boilermaker Classic on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Complex.
In their collegiate debuts, Tran and Guo paced the Maize and Blue in the season-opening event as they both recorded top-20 finishes. Tran's 224 (73-76-75) total helped her to 15th, while Guo tallied 225 (73-78-74) to tie for 16th. The duo had all six rounds count towards team scoring and each carded the lowest round of the event, opening their U-M careers with first-round 73s (+1).
Redshirt-junior Mara Janess rounded out U-M's top three as her 231 (77-79-75) total helped the Wolverines place three among the top 40, as she tied for 37th.
In their first event at Purdue in 15 years, the Wolverines opened the season with a 300 and closed Monday's 36-hole day with a 314 to sit 10th at 614. Coming back in the final round with a 301, U-M moved up one position to ninth.
With the season opener completed, the Wolverines return to Ann Arbor for a few weeks of work before heading back to competition. U-M travels up I-96 to East Lansing, Mich., on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 22-23 for Michigan State's Mary Fossum Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event will be played at Forest Akers West Course.
