
Jarema Leads U-M to Sixth Place Finish at Nuttycombe Invitational

MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 26-ranked University of Michigan men's cross country team earned a sixth-place finish at the Nuttycombe Invitational hosted by Wisconsin on Friday (Sept. 27) at the Badgers' Zimmer Championship Course.
BYU (44) earned the first-place finish in the overall standings, with Iowa State (108) coming in second, Wake Forest (150) third, North Carolina (196) fourth and Washington (246) rounding out the top five.
in the first of the meet's two races, Aiden Sullivan sat in 30th place through the first four kilometers before pulling ahead to 27th at the 6K mark and finishing 26th with a time of 25:52.8.
Caleb Jarema paced the Maize and Blue in the championship race, moving up four spots to 19th place with two kilometers to go. Luke Venhuizen was the second of the Wolverine contingent through the first six kilometers, sitting in 52nd, while Nathan Lopez sat in 56th and Trent McFarland sat in 62nd.
Jarema remained the lead runner for U-M at the finish line, placing 20th with a personal best time of 23:54.2, and Lopez also saw a personal best, finishing 42nd (24:08.9). Both Jarema and Lopez shaved more than 30 seconds off their previous personal bests.
Venhuizen was the next Wolverine to finish, coming in 57th with a personal best time of 24:15.6, while McFarland finished 59th (24:16.2).
U-M will be back in action on Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m. for the Live in Lou Classic hosted by Louisville.
