Great Britain 5, USA 2
Wolverine Abby Tamer scored two goals in the first half and the United States trailed by just one at halftime, but Great Britain surged in the second en route to a 5-2 decision at Yves-du-Manoir Stadium. After Great Britain struck early, Tamer notched the equalizer in the seventh minute, roofing a penalty-corner rebound to the near-side left corner of the cage. She pulled USA within one late in the second quarter, in the 29th minute, when she carried the ball right to left across the circle and ripped a reverse shot to the lower-right corner. USA 1, Spain 1
The United States and Spain played to 1-1 draw in the second game of pool play at Yves-du-Manoir Stadium. Wolverine Abby Tamer, who earned her second straight start at forward, appeared to have the go-ahead goal late in the second quarter, but it was waived off due to a foot on the restart. Team USA opened scoring with a spectacular goal late in the first quarter; after a goal-line defensive save on a Spain penalty corner, USA cleared the ball hard past the Spain defense to convert on a 2-on-1 opportunity in the circle. Spain evened the score late in the second quarter then largely controlled play throughout the second half -- Spain posted significant advantages in shots (19-7) and corners (13-2) in the game -- but USA's defense held up to persevere the tie.

Argentina 4, USA 1
The United States opened pool play and its Paris Olympics appearance with a 4-1 loss against Argentina -- the Pool B top seed and Olympic silver medalist in Tokyo -- at Yves-du-Manoir Stadium. Team USA controlled play for long swaths of the game but was doomed by quick strikes and a deadly corner drag flick. Argentina scored twice in the second quarter, but the Americans narrowed the score early in the third when Ashley Sessa banged in a rebound out of scrum in front of the cage. But Argentina again scored twice in quick succession, late in the third and early in the fourth to put the game away. Wolverine Abby Tamer earned the start at forward and fired one shot on goal.
