SPARKS, Md. -- University of Michigan graduate Beau Pederson and senior Justin Wietfeldt (first team), graduate Justin Tiernan (third team) and senior Michael Boehm (honorable mention) received USA Lacrosse All-America honors, the association announced Thursday (May 9).
Pederson, a consensus preseason All-American and second-team All-Big Ten selection, has starred as one of the top defensive midfielders in the country. He has totaled four goals and two assists (six points) on 18 shots. Defensively, he has totaled 24 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers. He also was recently selected 13th overall by the Utah Archers in the Premier Lacrosse League Draft.
Wietfeldt ranks fourth nationally in faceoff win percentage (.620) and second in the country in ground balls per game (9.06). With 145 ground balls on the season, he recently became the second Wolverine to eclipse 300 pickups in a career with 310, and is two ground balls from breaking former teammate Nick Rowlett's program record of 311.
Tiernan ranks second in the country in goals per game with 3.31, and leads the team with a program-record 53 goals. He has a goal in 27 straight games, 11 hat tricks, and 13 multi-point games. He has also established new program marks for shots attempted (143) and shots on goal (97).
Boehm -- the program's all-time leading scorer -- recently took home Big Ten Tournament MVP for the second straight season and ranks second on the team in goals (33), assists (30) and points (63). He also became the first player in U-M history to reach 100 career assists earlier this season and was selected 31st overall by the Philadelphia Waterdogs in the recent Premier Lacrosse Draft.
The honors for Pederson and Wietfeldt are the initial first-team honors in program history for the Wolverines.
