Four Wolverines Earn B1G Honors, Wietfeldt Named to First Team

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Senior Justin Wietfeldt (first team), as well as graduate student Beau Pederson, senior Michael Boehm, and graduate student Justin Tiernan (second team) of the University of Michigan men's lacrosse team were named All-Big Ten honorees, the conference announced Wednesday (April 24).
Wietfeldt, a repeat first-team honoree from a season ago, ranks No. 4 nationally in faceoff win percentage (.626) and No. 3 in the country in ground balls per game (9.38). He also established a new program record with 122 ground balls on the season. In Big Ten play, he is winning 65 percent of draws taken (77-of-119) with 48 pickups.
Wietfeldt becomes the first repeat first team honoree in school history, and and ups the All-Big Ten honors list to nine.
Pederson, a consensus first team preseason and midseason All-American as a defensive midfielder, owns 17 ground ball pickups and 13 caused turnovers. Against conference foes, he has six ground balls and has seven caused turnovers. The projected first-round pick in the upcoming Premier Lacrosse League Draft has four goals and two assists on the year and owns six points, with eight of his 15 shots coming in conference play.
Tiernan leads the Big Ten and ranks third in the NCAA in goals per contest (3.38) and boasts 44 markers on the year, one behind the program's single-season record of 45. He has registered a hat trick in all but three contests as a Wolverine, and has scored at least one goal in 25 straight contests, the 11th-longest streak in the NCAA. He also has a team-high 118 shots, 15 behind the single-season record, and 83 shots on goal, six behind the program record.
Boehm is second on the team in points with 49 (24 goals, 25 assists) and was also a first team honoree a season ago. He is No. 4 in the Big Ten and No. 17 nationally in points-per-game (3.77). In Big Ten play, he has 12 points (6g, 6a) with 10 ground ball pickups.
Graduate student Ryan Schriber was named Michigan's sportsmanship honoree. A team captain, he has worked his way back into the U-M lineup with a trio of games played after multiple knee injuries over the last two years.
