
Wolverines Blank Hoosiers for Ninth Straight Win

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team ran its winning streak to nine, shutting out Indiana 4-0 on Saturday (March 30) at the Varsity Tennis Center. With the win, Michigan remains unbeaten in Big Ten action at 5-0.
Michigan took the lead out of the gate, winning the doubles point in less than 30 minutes behind wins at No. 2 and No. 1.
The Wolverines quickly wrested control in doubles, with each team breaking to start and consolidating for 2-0 leads on all three courts.
Jaedan Brown and Gala Mesochoritou were first to finish at No. 2, dropping just one game in a 6-1 win. The pair converted on its second match point when Mesochoritou ripped a forehand in between the Hoosiers for the win.
Moments later, Reese Miller and Piper Charney closed out the doubles point by virtue of a 6-0 win at the top spot. Playing together at No. 1 for the first time, the freshmen were up to the task in picking up their third straight win to move to 3-0 in conference action.
The Maize and Blue took five first sets in singles action, highlighted by a 6-0 win from Lily Jones at No. 4 and a 6-1 win from Miller at No. 6.
Miller put Michigan's first singles point on the board, dropping just two total games in a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6. She converted on her third match point as Indiana double faulted on the deuce point to wrap up the win.
Jones accounted for U-M's third point, winning 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4. After getting the shutout win in the first set, Jones fell in a 2-0 hole to start the second. She responded by winning six of the next eight games to wrap up the straight-set victory.
Playing at the top spot for the first time in her career, Mesochoritou clinched the Michigan victory with a 6-4, 6-0 win. She got a break at 3-2 in the first set and did not look back, winning the following nine games for U-M's fourth and final point.
Michigan closes out the weekend Sunday (March 31) by hosting Purdue at noon. Admission to the Varsity Tennis Center is free.
