ATHENS, Ga. -- Senior Monet Chun led the Maize and Blue for the fourth time as the 35th-ranked University of Michigan women's golf team posted a 901 54-hole team total Saturday (March 30) to tie for 12th at Georgia's Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic played at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
After three weeks away from competition, the Wolverines headed to Athens to take part in the Bulldogs' home event which featured five of the top-25 teams and 13 of the top-75 in the nation. Opening with four of her five total first-round birdies, Chun paced U-M with an opening 70 (-2) in the first round as the Wolverines posted a 305.
Heading back out for the day's second 18, fifth-year senior Hailey Borja rebounded from an opening 81 with her second-round 70 (-2) thanks to four birdies and 12 pars. Adding a pair of 74s (+2) from Chun and Sydney Sung, Michigan posted a 296 total to position itself tied for 12th with a 601 36-hole total.
In the final round, Sung and freshman Sidney Yermish etched 73s (+1) on the board to help the Maize and Blue close with a 300 and stay in the 12th spot closing with its 901 total.
With her 221 total (70-74-77), Chun led U-M for the fourth time this season and tied for 21st place, while Sung tied for 29th, two shots back at 223 (76-74-73). Borja rounded out the top three as she tied for 51st at 229 (81-70-78).
The Wolverines will turn their attention to the regular-season finale, heading to Chattanooga, Tenn., from Sunday through Tuesday (April 7-9) for the Chattanooga Classic. The three-day, 54-hole event features a 16-team field competing at the Council Fire Golf Club.
