Wolverines Score 100 in Win Versus Titans

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 20-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team opened the game with a 15-3 run and led by as many as 50 points while hitting the century mark for the second time this season in a 100-54 win over Detroit Mercy on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 14) at Crisler Center. It marked Michigan's ninth consecutive win.
The dominant offensive performance was highlighted by freshman Olivia Olson, who led the Wolverines with 22 points in just 20 minutes of action. Three other Wolverines scored in double figures in junior Brooke Quarles Daniels (11), sophomore Macy Brown (11) and freshman Te'Yala Delfosse (13) as Michigan totaled 44 points off the bench. The Wolverines shot 54.7 percent from the field and held Detroit Mercy to 31.4 percent shooting. The Wolverine defense forced 23 turnovers, turning those into 37 points.
An opening layup by senior Greta Kampschroeder kicked off a dominant quarter for Michigan, who led 27-9 after 10 minutes of play. Capitalizing on second-chance opportunities, freshman Syla Swords scored a layup with 8:07 remaining in the quarter and a three-pointer shortly thereafter for a 9-1 Michigan lead. Four straight points from junior Yulia Grabovskaia and a pair of Brown free throws capped the opening 15-3 run for Michigan with just over five minutes remaining.
Freshman Mila Holloway opened up the Michigan scoring with a three-pointer to kickstart a 9-0 Wolverine run to open up the second quarter. The Wolverines stayed in control throughout the quarter, leading by as many as 34 in the frame. Olson hit a deep three as time expired for a 59-27 lead heading into the break, the fifth-most points scored in a first half in program history.
In the third quarter, Michigan (9-1) held the Titans (6-2) to just 11 points, shooting 3-for-16 from the field, putting up 23 points of its own. Quarles Daniels scored a nifty layup in the final second of the third quarter, pushing the Michigan lead to 82-38 going into the final period of play.
The contest finished with back-to-back buckets by Holloway, getting the Wolverines to triple digits for the second time this season. Eleven of the 12 Wolverines scored in the contest.
Michigan heads to Charlotte, N.C., next for the Jumpman Invitational, facing off against No. 10 Oklahoma on Tuesday (Dec. 17) at 9:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
