INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- After earning All-Region honors and finishing 10th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, Penelopea Gordon of the University of Michigan women's cross country team has qualified as an individual for the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Gordon punched her ticket to Madison, Wis., as one of the top four finishers at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional that is not a part of a qualifying team.
The Rochester, Minn., native, had a breakout debut season, finishing as the lead U-M runner and posting personal-best performances in her last three races.
At the Great Lakes Regional, Gordon sat 10th through the first two kilometers before dropping five spots to 15th with one kilometer left. Regaining the lost ground, Gordon finished in 10th place with a personal best time of 19:49.0.
The NCAA Championships will be hosted by Wisconsin on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wis. The women's six-kilometer race is set for 9:20 a.m. CT, with streaming on ESPNU and the ESPN app to begin at 8:30 a.m. CT.
