
Summer Event Update: Juda, Richard Make World Championships Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Six past and present members of the University of Michigan men's gymnastics team -- Javier Alfonso, Landen Blixt, Cameron Bock, Crew Bold, Paul Juda and Fred Richard -- participated in a trio of elite competitions over the month of August.

Rising sophomore Fred Richard placed third in the all-around (169.311), highlighted by an event-winning 29.802 on high bar. He also earned top-10 finishes on floor exercise (7th, 28.378), parallel bars (8th, 29.100) and still rings (9th, 28.000).
Graduate student Paul Juda took sixth in the all-around (167.202), winning floor exercise (23.900) -- and placing seventh on pommel horse (27.402) and fifth on high bar (27.300).
For their efforts, both Richard and Juda were named to the Team USA World Championship team. The event will be held Sept. 30-Oct. 18 in Antwerp, Belgium.
Graduate assistant coach Cameron Bock took ninth in the all-around (166.450), earning a trio of top-10 placements on pommel horse (8th, 27.400), parallel bars (7th, 29.550), and high bar (6th, 27.300). His performance earned him a berth on the United States team that will compete at the Pan-American Games Oct. 21-Nov. 4 in Santiago, Chile.
Sophomore Landen Blixt placed 15th in the all-around, led by a 27.352 on pommel horse to place ninth. He was named to the USA Gymnastics Developmental team at the conclusion of the competition.
Also in action was graduate student Crew Bold, who took part in four events, led by a runner-up finish on high bar (28.060) behind Richard. Junior Javier Alfonso competed in a trio of events, with matching eighth-place finishes on floor exercise (28.000) and still rings (28.100).

Juda placed third in the all-around (83.354), while Bock placed fourth with a score of 83.100. Juda took third on vault (15.102) and high bar (14.000), while Bock's top mark came on parallel bars (sixth, 14.550).
Bold took part in five events, with his top mark of 13.300 coming on still rings. Alfonso earned two top-five finishes with a 14.200 on still rings (third) and a 14.300 on floor exercise to take fifth.
World University Games

Richard took fourth in the all-around competition on day two, scoring an 83.764. Highlights were a 14.166 on floor exercise (fourth), 14.233 on high bar (second) and 14.166 on pommel horse (fourth). He qualified for all-around finals with an 82.999, leading Team USA in the category.
Blixt took part in the team portion of the event, and ripped off a 14.700 on vault to place fourth in his best event. In total, he marked a 79.032 in all-around competition.
As a team, the United States placed fourth with a team score of 246.361.
