Savannah Sutherland (April 5)
Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week -- Sophomore Savannah Sutherland earned a school record and NCAA-leading mark at the Florida Invitational in the 400-meter hurdles. She finished second by less than a second to Anna Hall, an Adidas athlete and 2023 U.S. heptathlon national champion. Sutherland's time of 55.36 seconds topped Amber Hay's 2009 record (57.44) and is the fastest 400-meter hurdle time in the NCAA this season. BreeAnna Bates (Feb. 24)
Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week -- Sophomore BreeAna Bates set a Michigan school record in the 60-meter dash at Silverston Invitational (Feb. 17), breaking a record previously held by two-time British Olympian Cindy Sember (Ofili). Running with a time of 7.36, the sprinter overtook the school record and the meet record in a stunning victory, also setting a new career-best. Bates now heads into this weekend's Big Ten Indoor Championships (Feb. 24-25) looking to claim a top-10 finish in the 60 meters.
Savannah Sutherland (Jan. 25)
Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week -- Sophomore Savannah Sutherland set a new career best in the 400 meters on Saturday (Jan. 21) at Simmons-Harvey Invitational. With a time of 53.01, Sutherland ranks first in the Big Ten and fifth in the NCAA for the distance. The sprinter was also part of a remarkable comeback in the 4x400 meter relay. After a fall by Sophie Isom in the first leg, Sutherland ran a split of 51.4 in the second leg. This time was three seconds faster than any other runner in the second leg, enabling the Wolverines to gain momentum and win the race. » Big Ten Release
Sam Tran, Riley Ammenhauser (Jan. 12)
Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week -- Senior Sam Tran set a new career-best in the 3,000 meters on Saturday (Jan. 7) at the Wolverine Invitational. With a time of 9:22.70, she took second in a highly competitive field of collegiate and professional runners. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week -- Sophomore Riley Ammenhauser won the triple jump on Saturday (Jan. 7) at the Wolverine Invitational, setting a career best in the process with a jump of 12.79 meters (41 feet, 11.5 inches). » Big Ten Release
