
US Championships Update: Richard Earns Fourth in All-Around, Named to National Team

Four gymnasts with ties to the University of Michigan men's gymnastics program will compete in the 2022 U.S. Gymnastics Championships from Thursday through Saturday (Aug. 18-20) at Amalie Arena. The group includes rising junior Javier Alfonso, incoming freshmen Landon Blixt and Fred Richard and recent graduate Cameron Bock, with all but Alfonso (still rings) competing in the all-around competition. The event begins Thursday (Aug. 18), while day two takes place on Saturday (Aug. 20) with both nights starting at 7 p.m. Thursday's activities will be broadcast on the Olympic Channel, while day two of the senior men's competition will be broadcast live on CNBC and also will air on tape delay on NBC on Sunday (Aug. 21) at 12:30 p.m.

Incoming freshman Fred Richard placed fourth overall in his first major senior-level competition, scoring 85.286 in the all-around on day two for a composite mark of 169.166. His top total scores came on high bar (second, 28.882), floor exercise (third, 28.782), and parallel bars (eighth, 29.310) en route to securing a spot on the United States Senior National Team.
Rising senior Paul Juda -- who did not take part due to injury -- also was named to the national team, which competes through the 2023 Winter Cup.
Recent graduate Cameron Bock placed 12th in the all-around (160.400), while incoming freshman Landen Blixt placed 13th (159.400).
Rising junior Javier Alfonso, who missed day one due to injury, came back to compete on still rings and scored a 13.000.
Thursday, Aug. 18: Richard Sixth in All-Around After Session I

Incoming freshman Fred Richard is in sixth place in the all-around competition with a mark of 83.880 after completing Session I on Thursday (Aug. 18). He boasted top-three scores on floor exercise (third, 14.466) and on high bar (second, 14.666).
Fellow newcomer Landen Blixt marked a combined 79.650 in the all-around, with his best score coming on high bar (seventh, 13.500). Recent graduate Cameron Bock is in 15th place with a 79.550 all-around score. Bock registered a pair of top-10 scores on pommel horse (fifth, 14.100) and still rings (ninth, 13.750), but faltered on vault and high bar to affect his overall score.
Junior Javier Alfonso did not compete due to injury.
Session II of the U.S. Championships will take place Saturday (Aug. 20) at 7 p.m. The action will be broadcast on CNBC.
