ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Recent graduates Devin Meyrer and Tom Dodd from the University of Michigan men's track and field/cross country teams were named to the Academic All-America team by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Wednesday (June 22).
For Meyrer, this marked the second consecutive year of inclusion among the ranks of the nation's top student-athletes, as he moved up from the third team in 2021 to the second team in 2022.
Dodd earned the honor for the first time in his brief, but decorated, Michigan career, and was named to the third team.
Both men were granted inclusion on the national team in a vote of CoSIDA members earlier this month after having been named to the Academic All-District team last month.
Meyrer joined four-time honoree -- and current director of track and field/cross country -- Kevin Sullivan and three-time honoree Mason Ferlic as the only men in program history to accumulate multiple Academic All-America awards.
Dodd became the seventh man in program history to earn at least one Academic All-America citation.
A graduate student from Wildwood, Mo., who graduated this spring with a master's of social work on the Interpersonal Practice in Integrated Health, Mental Health and Substance Abuse pathway, Meyrer is a three-time All-American between cross country and track and a multiple-time Big Ten Championships scorer.
During the 2021-22 academic year, Meyrer was one of the Wolverines' top runners on the cross country team and a steady presence on the track. He earned All-Big Ten and All-Region honors and competed for Michigan at the NCAA Championships. He narrowly missed scoring for the Wolverines at the Big Ten Indoor and Outdoor Championships in deep distance races.
In previous years, Meyrer twice earned All-America honors in cross country and garnered second-team All-America honors for the indoor 5,000 meters -- an event in which he also owns the school record at 13:40.66.
A graduate student from Birmingham, England, who graduated this spring with a master's degree in movement science, Dodd is a two-time All-American and three-time NCAA Championships competitor in the mid-distance events.
Dodd broke four minutes in the mile three different times in 2021 en route to earning first-team All-America honors, and went on to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships at 1,500 meters. After earning All-Big Ten honors in cross country in the fall of 2021, he earned first-team All-America honors in his only 2022 indoor appearance as a member of the distance medley relay.
This spring, he finished fourth in the Big Ten 1,500 meters and advanced to the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds for the second straight season.
