U-M Wins Qualifier Session, Advances to NCAA Finals

NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team won qualifier session II of the 2022 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships, scoring a team mark of 412.890 on Friday (April 15) at Oklahoma's Lloyd Noble Center.
U-M (21-1) qualified second overall behind Stanford (426.352). With the result, the Wolverines advance to session III of the NCAA Championships, held Saturday (April 16) at 6 p.m. CT.
The Wolverines began the night on parallel bars, scoring a season-best 70.332, with four scores above the 14-plateau. The mark surpassed its previous season best of 69.950 by .581. After the first rotation, U-M sat in second behind Oklahoma (70.531).
Following a 67.866 in the second rotation on high bar, U-M was in second behind Ohio State (139.264) by 1.066 points. Michigan then tallied a 68.331 on floor exercise for a running total of 206.529, only .200 behind the leader Buckeyes and over five points clear of third place.
U-M then took to pommel horse, notching a 66.398 on the apparatus and remained in second place behind the Buckeyes, but quite literally vaulted into first in the final rotation. A strong vault score of 70.631 coupled with a subpar pommel horse score for the Buckeyes (65.030) allowed U-M to take the lead, winning the session by 4.934 points.
Junior Paul Juda was U-M's top performer on the night, earning the top scores in the sesion on parallel bars (14.600) and high bar (14.200). Also notable was the return of senior Cameron Bock, who took part on three events, highlighted by a 14.400 on parallel bars.

The NCAA Finals are set for Saturday (April 16) at 6 p.m. CT inside Lloyd Noble Center. Joining the Wolverines will be Stanford, as well as Nebraska (411.388), Ohio State (407.956), Oklahoma (407.290) and Illinois (406.691).
