
U-M to Return to B1G Competition with Top-Five Meet at Illinois

» Michigan is ranked No. 4 in the country, the Illini check in at No. 5 and both teams enter with an identical 1-1 record.

The defending Big Ten champions and No. 4-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team will travel to Champaign, Ill., for a Big Ten dual meet against the No. 5-ranked Illinois Fighting Illini on Sunday (March 13) at 2:30 p.m. CT. The meet will be broadcast nationally via BTN.
Wolverine Bites
• U-M ranks as the No. 4 team in the country in the RTN rankings (401.933). The Wolverines are No. 2 on still rings (67.583) and are ranked fifth on parallel bars (66.367), high bar (64.967), floor exercise (66.783), and pommel horse (65.350).
• Junior Paul Juda leads the nation on high bar with a 14.250 average and is also No. 3 on pommel horse (13.670) and fourth on parallel bars (14.112). Senior Nicholas Guy (third, 14.600) and freshman David Wolma (fifth, 14.533) check-in with top-five rankings on vault, while junior David Willett ranks No. 6 in the all-around (76.967).
• For his performance against Army and William & Mary, Juda earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors. He swept all-six individual event titles as well as the all-around, notching a mark of 86.100. His highest score on an individual event came on vault with a 14.80. The honor is the fourth of his U-M career.
• The Wolverines have stuck nine landings, have counted 30 scores above the 14-plateau, and have hit 100 routines on the season.
• U-M's road score of 412.850 counted 27 hit routines and was up 14.75 points from the previous road score high at Ohio State.
• The Illini rank No. 5 entering the meet (398.883) and are No. 2 on vault (71.517), and No. 3 on high bar (65.517). Their other top-five event is pommel horse (65.400).
Their top gymnast on any event is Ian Skirkey, who ranks second on pommel horse (13.770), while Hamish Carter is No. 4 on high bar (13.683). Other top-10 gymnasts are Connor McCool on floor exercise (No. 9, 13.800), Evan Manivong on vault (No. 5, 14.525), and Ashton Anyaya on still rings (No. 10, 13.663). Michigan leads the all-time series by a 20-17 margin.
