MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Michigan men's cross country team raced well to finish 20th at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course on Friday (Oct. 14).
Graduate Student Arjun Jha finished in 46th place with a career-best time 8K time of 23:42.9. Jha's position changed throughout the race as he started in 26th, but he fell to 49th at the halfway mark. With 2000 meters to go, he made his way to 30th, but ended up in 46th.
The next finisher for the Maize and Blue was senior Tom Brady who finished in 56th in his season debut for the Wolverines. Brady started off strong in 19th place but fell back to 44th with 2000 meters to go. Brady also ran a career-best time in the 8K beating his previous time by 18 seconds.
The Wolverines' next finishers were sophomore Oli Raimond (24.10.4), junior Zach Stewart (24:15.4), and sophomore Jozef Meyers (24:34.9) who finished 121st, 131st and 172nd overall. Raimond and Meyers both set career-best times.
Through the 2000M, the top 200 competitors were separated by just seven seconds, at the halfway point seven seconds separated 1st and 88th.
Ten runners also ran in the "B" race today which was highlighted by junior Anthony Hancock, who finished 32nd with a time of 24:38.3 and junior Jack Spamer who ran 24:45.7 to end in 39th. These racers led Michigan to eighth place of 15 in the "B" final.
A small group of Michigan runners will compete on Friday, Oct. 21, at the EMU Fall Classic in Dexter, Mich., before the full team is back in action for the Big Ten Championships on Oct. 28 at U-M Golf Course.
