Cerdan Wins Singles B Backdraw at Wolfpack Invitational

» Junior Andrea Cerdan won her final three singles matches to win the backdraw of the Singles B draw at the Wolfpack Invitational.
» Joining Cerdan at the event were Kari Miller, Jaedan Brown and Nicole Hammond. All four played singles matches, while Brown/Miller and Cerdan/Hammond teamed up on the doubles court.
» During the fall portion of the season, everyone competes as an individual. There are no team results.

CARY, N.C. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team wrapped up action at the Wolfpack Invitational on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 26), with junior Andrea Cerdan winning the backdraw of the Singles B draw to highlight the event.
Representing the Maize and Blue at the event were sophomores Kari Miller and Jaedan Brown, along with juniors Cerdan and Nicole Hammond.
After dropping her first singles match to start the event, Cerdan ripped off three straight victories to win the backdraw. She battled back from a 6-2 first-set loss to Princeton's Neha Velaga in the final to take the second set in a breaker, 7-3. It was all Cerdan in the third set as she cruised to a 6-0 win to finish with a 3-1 singles record.
Miller entered the tournament ranked No. 31 and finished singles action with a 3-2 record. Miller's singles weekend was highlighted by knocking off No. 29 Ayana Akli of South Carolina in three sets, 0-6, 6-4, 6-3, after falling to her last season when she was playing at Maryland.
Brown also finished the event with a 3-2 record on the singles court. After going three sets in each of her first four matches, Brown wrapped up her tourney with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Virginia's Melodie Collard on Sunday.
Hammond won her final three singles matches to wrap up her tourney action, getting wins over Collard, Tennessee's Eleonora Molinaro and UCF's Marie Mattel.
Michigan will continue the fall portion of its season next weekend (Oct. 1-3), hosting the Wolverine Invitational at the Varsity Tennis Center.
