University of Michigan swimming and diving head coach Mike Bottom was named one of 58 panelists for the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America's year-long centennial celebration committee on Thursday (Aug. 26).
This panel is tasked with voting on the sport's greatest athletes, coaches and alumni of the first 100 years of official competition. The voting base consists of influential figures from across college swimming and diving, including current and former coaches, past athletes and members of the media.
Bottom began his time on the Wolverines' staff in 2008 as the head men's swimming and diving coach, and in 2013 took the reigns as the head coach of both men's and women's swim and dive teams. Since then, Bottom has led U-M to a men's national title (2013), 12 Big Ten titles (men: 2009, 2011-16, 2020-21; women: 2016-18), and has had 12 top-10 NCAA finishes (men: 2009-15, 2018, 2021; women: 2016, 2018-19).
In addition to Bottom, retired Wolverines women's swim and dive coach Jim Richardson, who led the Wolverines to 14 Big Ten titles and NCAA top-10 finishes, also will participate on the panel.
Founded in 1922, the CSCAA is the nation's first professional association of collegiate coaches. As a part of its centennial, the association is recognizing the 100 Greatest Swimmers & Divers, Coaching Pioneers and 100 Greatest Coaches, 100 Alumni of Impact and a Centennial MVP Team. The CSCAA will announce nominees for the 100 Greatest Swimmers and Divers next week. Nominations are still being accepted for coaches, alumni and team MVPs.
