ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson of the University of Michigan football team was selected to Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 5 honors, it was announced Thursday (June 10).
Hutchinson is one of five student-athletes from the Big Ten to be named Academic All-District 5. This is the first CoSIDA Academic honor for Hutchinson.
Hutchinson has appeared in 29 career games with 16 starts in his career along the defensive line. He was a team captain as a junior in 2020. He has totaled 98 tackles (48 solo) in his career with 11.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, six passes defended and two forced fumbles. Injury shortened his 2020 campaign to three games during which he contributed 15 tackles.
He is also accomplished in the classroom. An exercise science major, Hutchinson was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2019 and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree (2019-20). He was a third team all-conference selection by the coaches as a sophomore (2019).
Academic All-District teams are selected by CoSIDA and recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in academics and athletics. Being named Academic All-District puts Hutchinson on the ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team. First-, second- and third-team honorees will be named in July.
