
Michigan Earns NCAA At-Large Bid, Will Face Rice in First Round at LSU

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- With a 17-3 record along with winning the 2021 Big Ten championship, the University of Michigan women's tennis team earned an at-large NCAA Tournament berth and will face Rice in the first round. It marks Michigan's 19th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
U-M will square off against Rice (15-6) in the first round at 10 a.m. CDT Friday (May 7)Â at the LSU Tennis Complex in Baton Rouge, La. The host LSU Tigers (14-5), seeded 12th, will face Boston University (7-1) in the site's other first-round match at 1 p.m. CDT.
The first-round winners will play Saturday (May 8) at 1 p.m. CDT for a spot in the the Round of 16 and a trip to the team championship, scheduled for May 16-22 in Orlando, Fla.
Michigan won the Big Ten championship with a 15-1 record in conference action, and the Wolverines finished runner-up in the conference tournament. Freshman Kari Miller, ranked No. 50 in singles by the ITA, and graduate student Chiara Lommer each earned All-Big Ten honors after anchoring the Wolverines at the top of the lineup.
