
Wolverines Clinch Share of B1G East Title with Win at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team clinched a share of the Big Ten East Division title after a 4-1 win at Penn State on Friday (April 16) at the Sarni Tennis Center. The Wolverines can win the title outright with a win over Ohio State on Sunday (April 18).
The Wolverines won the doubles point outdoors before a pause in play during singles. Moving indoors, Michigan won three of four singles matches to earn the victory.
Nick Beaty, the Big Ten Men's Athlete of the Week, won his seventh straight singles match, defeating Alp Sentay 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5. The win is his seventh in a row, marking the second time this season he has done so. Beaty moves to 12-1 in conference play and 18-3 overall.
At No. 1 singles, Andrew Fenty claimed his fifth straight victory, taking down Christian Lakoseljac 7-5, 6-4. It marked his 10th win at the No. 1 position this season and he is 15-7 in singles this season.
Mattias Siimar clinched the team win at No. 4 singles. Down 4-1 in the first set, he rallied to win five straight games to take it 6-4. Winning 6-2 in the second set, Siimar won his fifth straight and is now 13-1 in the Big Ten and 16-5 overall.
The Wolverines earned their first Big Ten division championship, which goes along with 36 overall conference titles. This season, the Big Ten is divided into East and West divisions. The East Division includes Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue.
Michigan will next battle Ohio State on Sunday (April 18) at noon in Columbus.
