ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 6-ranked Michigan men's swimming and diving team returned to action Saturday morning (Nov. 6) and defeated visiting Grand Valley State 142-95 in the Ian Miskelley Memorial Meet in Canham Natatorium.
The meet kicked off with the Maize and Blue taking the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay and never looking back. Jared Daigle, Cameron Luarde, Cam Peel and Will Chan turned in the top time of 1:30.90, while the team of Noah Yarian, James LeBuke, Wyatt Davis and Spencer Carl finished second in 1:33.50.
Sophomore Yugo Tsukikawa kept the Wolverines winning, taking the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.27. In the 50-yard freestyle, U-M took the top three spots; Sophomore Bence Szabados touched the wall first in 20.19, followed closely by freshman Niklas Eberly (20.62) and senior Patrick Callan (21.10).
Michigan (4-0) secured the dual victory over GVSU (4-2) in the 200-yard IM, sweeping the top four spots. Senior Daigle led the way with a 1:47.74, while freshman Gal Groumi came in second in 1:50.01. Sophomore Davis finished third in 1:52.42 and fellow sophomore Jake Mitchell rounded out the quartet with a 1:54.86.
From there, the Wolverines only took scores from their top finishers, posting wins in the 100-yard butterfly (Peel, 49.49), 100-yard freestyle (Niklas Eberly, 45.38), 100-yard backstroke (Groumi, 50.92), 500-yard freestyle (4:31.82) and 100-yard breaststroke (Eric Storms, - 57.00).
Michigan also had freshman Cameron Gammage competing in the diving well, as the Stockbridge, England native scored top marks in the 3-meter with a 384.00. Gammage was the lone diver for the Wolverines on the day, also scoring a 230.48 on the 1-meter.
Michigan has nearly a month off before returning to action when it heads to Minneapolis to take part in the Minnesota Invitational, Dec. 1-4.
