She logged nearly 1,800 minutes on the pitch this season while adding two assists. Martin's inclusion makes her the third Wolverine in program history to earn a semifinal nod, along with Abby Crumpton (finalist, 2002) and Nkem Ezurike (semifinalist, 2013). Three finalists will be announced on Dec. 8, while the finalist banquet will be held at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 7, 2022.
Hillary Beall (Oct. 5)
Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week -- Senior Hillary Beall has been named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week for her performance in U-M's 1-0-1 week, highlighted by a 2-1 victory over Purdue on Thursday (Sept. 30) and a wether-shortened scoreless draw against Indiana on Sunday (Oct. 3). Against the Boilermakers, Beall stopped a pair of shots and followed with a season-best six stops against the Hoosiers for her third solo clean sheet of the season. Beall ranks No. 20 nationally in goals-against-average (.543) and ranks second in the Big Ten in the category. This is her third Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week nod, last earning the accolade on Feb. 23 of last season.
Meredith Haakenson, Raleigh Loughman, Sammi Woods (Aug. 16)
Big Ten Players to Watch, Preseason Poll -- Seniors Meredith Haakenson and Raleigh Loughman and sophomore Sammi Woods have been named Big Ten Players to Watch, while the Wolverines were picked fourth in the conference's preseason poll.
Haakenson, who started every match a season ago, had five points (two goals, one assist) on the year and was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on March 13. A 2019 second team All-Big Ten honoree, she has played in 54 matches with 36 starts to go along with 11 goals and five helpers in her U-M career.
Loughman, a holding midfielder by trade, started all 11 matches last season and had two assists. A two-time second team All-Big Ten honoree (2019-20) and 2021 team captain, she has played in 50 matches with 36 starts, and has registered seven goals and 12 helpers.
Woods was a Big Ten All-Freshman Team honoree a season ago, and was one of only two Wolverines to tally double-digit points with 11, scoring four goals and chipping in three assists. She played in all 11 matches (three starts) and was named Big Ten co-Freshman of the Week on March 18, after scoring two goals and an assist over a two-match span.
In the preseason poll, U-M trailed Penn State, Rutgers and Ohio State.
